The female camelid's pregnancy lasts between 370 and 400 days. It has an udder in the lower abdominal area with four teats and two lactiferous orifices in each teat. Depending on the species, breeding lasts between 12 and 18 months and the average daily production is 5 to 14 litres with maximums of up to 20 litres. The centesimal composition of camel milk is: protein 3 to 4, fat 3 to 5 and lactose 4 to 5, quite different from that of female milk: 1, 4 and 7 respectively.
The suckling camel motif is repeated on other Libyan banknotes and Kuwaiti stamps.
