Silver-plated medal by the Belgian sculptor and artist Godefroid Devreese (Courtrai / Kortijk 1861 - Elsene 1941); the obverse reads "Childhood nourishment" and the author's signature. Pupil at the Brussels academy of Strappen and Simonis. His medals are strongly influenced by French Art Nouveau. Awarded numerous prizes, all the participants in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 received a medal by Devreese.
On the back, the phrase "They must live!" by Paul Pastur (Marcinelle 1866 - 1938), Doctor of Law, founder of the Democratic Federation party in 1892, defender of workers' rights, universal suffrage and the United States of Europe. A vocational educator, he developed technical and special education and founded the provincial industrial college in 1903. He instituted the first Mother's Day holiday in Belgium in 1927.
