Medal issued by the UNESCO to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Rubens' birth. On the obverse is the bust of the painter, executed according to the self-portrait kept in his house in Antwerp. The image on the reverse is taken from "The Maternity", a drawing in the collection of the Louvre Museum. Its name reproduces his own calligraphy.
Minted by the Mint of Paris, the engraving is by the French artist Serge Santucci (1944 -). The proceeds of the sale go to support young artists in developing countries.
