In 1979, the WHO declaredUNICEF as the International Year of the Child. Stamps alluding to children, not just breastfeeding, were issued by philateliers in virtually every country.
Polychrome terracottas depicting Children in swaddling clothes by the Florentine artist (ceramist) Andrea Della Robia (1463) decorate the nine arcades of the Hospice of the Innocents (Ospedale degli Innocenti) built around 1445 by Philip Bruneleschi (Florence 1377-1446) to house abandoned children. The building, paid for by the silk guild, is located in Piazza Annunziata in Florence. It is now a museum and the headquarters of the Innocenti Research Centre of the UNICEF.
