The Flemish artist Jan Gossaert (1478-1533/36), born in Maubege (Hainaut) and therefore called "Mabuse", incorporated Italian Renaissance elements into the Flemish medieval tradition. Oil on wood The Virgin and Child painted in 1530 measures 78 x 54 cm and is kept in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon.
