Suckling Madonna, Madonna of Humility, Master of Villahermosa, Cathedral of Valencia.
Dimensions: -
Temple y óleo sobre tabla que se conserva en la Catedral de Valencia. Obra del Maestro de Villahermosa, activo a finales del siglo XIV, al que algunos especialistas identifican como el pintor Lorenzo Zaragozá.
The Our Lady of Humility is a variant of the model of Maria Lactans or Virgin of Milk, in which Mary is humbly seated on a cushion on the ground, nursing her child and generally surrounded by angels. Of Italian origin, possibly in Siena, it was exported by Jaume Serra, a 14th-century Catalan painter, together with his brothers Pere, Francesc and Joan, and his master Ramon Destorrents, who spread it throughout Catalonia and the rest of Spain.
