Sandro Botticelli (Florence, 1444-1510). His real name was Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi (Botticelli = big-headed, which was the family nickname for his older brother's obesity). A Renaissance painter with late Gothic influences, he was a pupil of Fra Filippo Lippi and teacher of the latter's son Filippino Lippi.
