Inspired by the work of the Sienese painter Paolo di Giovanni Fei (1345 - 1411) who in the 1370s painted several "Madonna del latte". There is one in the Museo dell'Opera Metropolitana del Duomo in Siena, two in the Metropolitan museum (MET) of New York. another in the collection of the Barbara Piasecka Johnson Foundation (Princeton and Monte Carlo).
